Registering for a Unique Student Identifier

The Australian Government has introduced the Unique Student Identifier (USI) as a requirement for all students of the Vocational Education and Training Sector from 2015.

If you will be continuing studying a VET course into 2015, you will be required to apply for a Unique Student Identifier.

As of 1 January 2015 all VET students in Australia will be required to hold a USI if they are engaging in study in VET nationally recognised training. This applies to all students who are continuing studying having commenced before 2015; as well as all students who commence in 2015.

Registered Training Organisations will be required to collect each student’s USI. All Alsco Managed Training students who will be continuing their studies in 2015 or commencing their studies in 2015 will be required to supply Alsco Managed Training with a USI.

**Most importantly, from January 1 2015, RTOs can only issue Certificates to students who have supplied their USI**

The Benefits of the USI is that each individual student’s USI will link to an online account containing all records and resultsfrom all VET training completed by that individual from 1 January 2015 onwards. There will be:

  • easy access to all training records and results, which are often required when applying for a job or enrolling in further study.
  • easy access from a computer, tablet, or smart phone.
  • easy access to information about previous study for the assessment of course prerequisites, credit transfer, and some RPL.
